Online Advertising
I am planning to make revenue from my startup purely from affiliate agreements/ advertising. Is google adwords the best advertising option available on a site? which affiliate programs are best, are there popular ones i should stay clear of?

I'd suggest that "best" depends on who you're targeting and what your conversion goals are. Have a look at Facebook ads, I've had better performance there recently.

you may go for google adwords and try to find out your potential consumer audience. going for a selective approach in your product line marketting would help you out.

That's a great question! If your budget aligns with a PPC setup I say go for it.
If you're looking for more organic and economical options I'd recommend using social med Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
The best type of marketing content is going to be video, picture 2nd and content last. If you do decide to go the Adwords direction I've got some people who can help you with that.

Adwords is usually, together with branded SEO, the top performing channel. But it will only be the best for each advertiser depending on many factors: competitors & competitive advantage (if your competitors biddings are very high, or if your product will not have a good conversion rate), type of market (if your product is related to keywords that nobody search or if it has a high search volume), web structrure (if you have different pages related to different potential searches which can bring traffic to your website, as it will improve quality score, reduce cpcs, and improve conversion rate), etc etc.
Regarding affiliate program, it depends on industry and region/country, and the type of affiliates/actions you will ned

I believe you should not abandon Google AdWords so soon.
When you need quick access to lead with your affiliate offers, Google paid ads can help you convert your target audience in the short term. Organic lead generation is valuable in affiliate marketing, but it is a slow process. To pull your target audience in, you need to do a lot of research and analytics tracking.
