I recently started my own fitness based company, tailored to athletes, and I've been an athlete in organized sport for 14 years.

It really depends on what you're looking to work on. For example, if you want to gain mass, you're going to need access to weights. If you're strictly looking to do cardio, you could easily bypass the gym and go for a run 3-4 times a week. There are so many gyms out there now that you could easily get a gym membership for as low as $10 a month, but on average I'd say you'll be paying around $30 a month. Then again, there are gyms that offer a lot of amenities, that can charge as much as $200 a month. Again, this all depends on your needs, budget, and comfort level of working out in front of strangers.

I'd love to hop on a call if you'd like, and talk more about this, or answer any other questions you have about the topic. Good luck! :)

These days fitness center can be very specific to a clientele. Their prices vary because of what they offer. A typical box gym that offers classes and has equipment can range from 19.95-90.00. The type of member will be different with the increase in price and also the amenities. Fitness centers are a great way to meet people that you will have something in common with. There are also cross fit gyms that are very community bases and are challenging physically. New clubs such as Orange theory add a class environment that most people enjoy. These type of clubs add the accountability factor that most people need to stay on track. You can also look into personal trainer that offer group programs. I suggestion is to seek out a few different styles of clubs and ask for a free trial. This way you can see what you like and you may even want to combine different clubs that fit your schedule. Good luck and enjoy healthy living.

As someone that works out 4-5 times a week, yes, they are necessary. The reason I prefer a gym is simply because I don't have the room in my home for all the equipment I prefer to use, and all the different pieces are expensive. I don't use any services or other classes, so I look for gyms in the range of $20-$30/month. Cleanliness and quality of equipment are huge regarding differentiation. Another factor is the gym etiquette of other patrons. I prefer 24hr gyms because I can always get a workout in despite my changing schedule. Hope that helps.
